THE EXPERIENCE

Situated in the Short Walks Capital of Tasmania, and located minutes from World Heritage wilderness, Cedar Cottage Meander is a hand-built eco-luxe cabin perfect for couples and small groups.
With a chef’s kitchen, fire pit and grill, plus exclusive access to an organic kitchen garden, you can enjoy fresh Tasmanian produce exactly how you like it.
Unwind in the cedar hot tub on your private deck overlooking the mountains and watch the stars blink into life.
Experience slow living at its finest.

THE COTTAGE

Furnished with warm Tasmanian speciality woods like deep red Myrtle and Black Hearted Sassafras, Cedar Cottage Meander is a unique and beautiful space.
You’ll find an appreciation of craft everywhere you look, from the old mortice and tenon joints, to the hand-made Huon Pine kitchen, the post-and-rail fences made from hand-split hardwood, to the block-printed cushion and yukata robe fabrics.
We’ve decorated the cottage with relaxed comfort in mind, using natural materials like wood, linen, cotton, jute, down and wool. There’s a little bit of quirk added to a whole heap of style.
Enjoy a guest library with a focus on contemporary Tasmanian authors, as well as a number of coffee table, art and hardcover books, including publications from the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA).
We haven’t scrimped on technology. This might be the bush, but you can still enjoy unlimited, fast WIFI, smart lock entry (no more fumbling with lock boxes in the dark), multiple USB charging points, a BOSE Bluetooth speaker, a smart TV and programmable electric blankets.

THINGS TO SEE AND DO

Located an hour’s drive from both Launceston and Devonport, Cedar Cottage Meander sits at the foot of kooparoona niara / the Great Western Tiers in Central-North Tasmania.
Known as the “mountains of our spirits’ to the local Pallitorre people, this area encompasses wild wilderness like the virgin rainforests found in the Meander Forest Reserve, to the alpine moorland gardens on the escarpments above.
We are close to the Central Plateau Conservation Area, the Walls of Jerusalem National Park, the iconic Cradle Mountain–Lake St Clair National Park, the Mole Creek Karst National Park, tulampanga / Alum Cliffs and Liffey Falls.
Enjoy fly fishing, bush walking, river sledding, horse riding, canyoning, caving, cultural tours and other adventures.
Food lovers have plenty of choice to stock up at Launceston’s famous Harvest Market, the Cradle to Coast Tasting Trail and the Deloraine-Latrobe Produce Loop, with fresh Tasmanian produce, cheese, ethical meat, smoked salmon, craft beer, cider and boutique wineries and distilleries at your fingertips.
Deloraine with its cafes, arts, crafts, and village charm is 15 minutes away by car. We recommend the Deloraine Deli and Found in Earth for great coffee and treats. The Bush Inn, Red Brick Road Ciderhouse and Distillery, and The Empire Hotel are great spots for a drink and a nibble. Further afield, there’s the Wandering Trout Crafty Ales Bar & Grill and the top-notch Tasmanian Food and Wine Conservatory.
The local Meander Bridge Café offers real coffee and tasty, well-priced lunches too; it’s also a post office, general store, great place for a yarn, and a communications hub in the tradition of all good rural towns.

WHAT OUR GUESTS SAY

Hands down the best Airbnb we have ever stayed in! It is cosy and everything is high quality. It was so nice to stay somewhere that didn’t feel like an IKEA showroom. The kitchen was well equipped, the beds were comfortable and the overall functionality of the house is great, and the hot tub is an absolute dream. It’s the first airbnb we have stayed where the veggie patch is fair game, and that was a real treat. Being able to pick fresh things from the garden was amazing, and is such a great thing to have for guests. This place really is an absolute gem! I would definitely recommend. -- Lewis
A charming, stylish, thoughtfully acquainted cottage surrounded by the most beautiful mountain views. Sarah, has thought of every luxury and comfort you could want in this secluded little gem! -- Jessica
This place is truly breath taking. My partner and I could have moved in for the rest of our lives. One of those places you don’t want to leave. In addition the host goes above and beyond. It’s the small touches and gestures that make a stay and this one was worth every cent. -- Monique
