Life comes with a distinct twang in Tamworth, the spiritual home of Australian country music. In the 1970s, Tamworth was home to queer activist Vernon Marshall, who opened a 'Hey Vernon' mailbox for struggling members of the LGBTQIA+ community to find strength in connection. Continuing Vernon's legacy, Tamworth Pride Inc hosts regular pride events, including the annual Pride Fair Day, monthly Pride & Friends Dinners at the Tamworth Services Club, and other assorted lunches, BBQs, and get togethers. Also keep your calendar open for the annual Tamworth Area Gay & Lesbian Group Black and White Ball, held in August.
Finally, a trip to Tamworth wouldn't be complete without a visit to The Press, a 1920s-inspired basement bar and lounge. The Press hosts regular drag shows, burlesque performances, and karaoke nights.
